Recreation and Things To Do
Whatever you may want to do, whatever your age, we have something for you... If the weather is good and you fancy a bit of tennis, try out our court. If you are a big group and want to expend your energies in a more vigorous way, have a game of football. If you wish for something a little more sedate, then try a few putts or drives on our pitch and putt course, or if the weather is a little grey, you could go for a swim in our indoor swimming pool (opening times may vary according to the season and time of day), or play table tennis in our indoor sports hall. If you wish for something quiet and relaxing, have a game of pool.
For those of you who are sports shy, but want to enjoy the beautiful countryside and fresh air, you could go on one of the many country walks in the surrounding area. Chantmarle has plenty of wildlife, including wild deer, herons, badgers and bats, and if you want a little bit of history, follow the signed footpaths to Evershot, a beautiful Dorset village, and there you will find the cottage that Thomas Hardy mentioned in "Tess of the D'Urbervilles", a thatched cottage near the parish church, as well as some of his architectural work.
If you want to go a little further afield, the historic town of Dorchester is only about 10 miles away to the south, and Yeovil about 10 miles to the north. And if you want to see the sea, the beaches and harbour at nearby Weymouth are well worth visiting. The reception will have information on all these places and more, as well as brochures on days out and other activities in the area.
Whatever your needs, whether active or simply relaxing reading a book, Chantmarle is that special place to unwind and just feel good.
The Resource Centre recreational facilities are free for the use of Chantmarle residents.
